Pennsylvania: The Birthplace of Baseball Celebrates this Summer
Baseball is more than America's favorite pastime in Pennsylvania -- for many people, it is a way of life. And if there's ever been a time to visit Pennsylvania for the sport, that time is now.

The Major League Baseball season may be in full swing for the state's two major league teams, but the spirit of the sport comes alive June 11-18 during National League Week, which kicks off several months of baseball happenings that will have travelers roadtripping across the State of Independence.

Little League Baseball, headquartered in Williamsport, will honor the start of the season with a FREE open house and guided tours on June 17 at the International Little League Museum and Little League International complex. The sites are the home to this year's 60th Annual International Little League World Series, Aug. 18-27.

Next up is the July 11 Major League All-Star game at Pittsburgh's PNC Park. ESPN recently named PNC Park the best baseball stadium to see a game and Sports Illustrated ranked it second for best value. The 38,496-seat stadium was designed with the fan in mind - no seat is more than 88 feet from the field.

Following the trip to Pittsburgh, go extra innings and take a short drive to Altoona to see the Eastern League All-Star Game (AA), July 12, at the Altoona Curve's Blair County Ballpark. The classically-designed, 7,200-seat park is one of the only ballparks in America with an amusement park just beyond the outfield wall: the family-themed Lakemont Park.

Adding to the state's roster of professional, minor league baseball, the New State College Spikes hold their opening day June 20. In the backyard of the beloved Penn State Nittany Lions, the town of State College now has another team to cheer. This is back-to-back years for new teams in Pennsylvania - the Lancaster Barnstormers in the Dutch Country Roads Region joined the league in 2005.

Pennsylvania is also home to many of baseball's lesser-known icons: Topps Baseball Cards; Majestic Athletics, which supplies the uniforms for all MLB teams; and BWP bats, which is known for manufacturing the hardest and most long-lasting wooden bats in the major leagues.

Comment:
If you love baseball, moving to Pennsylvani might be an option. Unless you are an American League fan!
